Salem Public Schools
District web page containing important information / alerts for parents and students.  Accessing this site is useful for "nuts and bolts" issues such as the district calendar, sno day notifications, staff contact, and links to individual schools within the district.  Each school contains it's own descriptor to best inform the community about the happenings of the school.

City of Salem, Ma
Official website for the City of Salem - great links and very useful for residents.  The site contains information on all city departments, public meetings, ordinances, and useful images such as maps and other documents.  This page is good for students at Salem High School, particularly students taking the elective course, "Salem: A Modern City."

Salem News
Local news site, particularly useful for students taking the history elective course, "Salem: A Modern City."  This site focuses on issue pertinent to Salem and the Northshore, but occasionally will pull national / world stories from the Associated Press.  The site is user-friendly and offers a search bar that yeilds numerous articles.

Salem in History
An excellent site that places Salem and its history in context with greater world history.  The site contains primary source documents and is user-friendly.  This is a great resource for any student taking, "Salem: A Modern City" as well as students taking World or U.S. History courses.

Peabody Essex Museum
This site is a great resource, especially for residents of Salem.  The site outlines exhibits being shown at PEM and offers the upcoming schedule.  A nice feature of the site is the extensive amount of visual imagery included.  The best part about PEM is that it's FREE for residents of Salem!  It's located downtown by the big fountain, get there!!!

CNN
Excellent source of information for current events.  The site is updated throughout the day and is a good way for students to follow news stories and see local and world events unfold.  The site is well organized and user-friendly.  Use of the searchbar yeilds numerous articles on a wide range of topics.

BBC
International news organization, good for current events / alternative viewpoints.  This is a good site for student use because it offers differing opinions for students when researching various content.  The site is user-friendly and offers a search bar that yeilds numerous articles for a wide variety of topics.

National Public Radio
Public news organization, based on local station 90.0.  Excellent programming and resource for studying our world.  The site is user-firendly and offers a wide variety of programs that students can listen to.  NPR is a news based orgainzation, but covers a wide variety of social issues as well as interesting stories.  The site utilizes images and looks really good.

History Channel
Well organized and somewhat flashy / interesting website, worth checking out.  This is a good resource for students who are beginning to study a topic or those who are unsure of which topic to choose.  The site is user-friendly and has some fun video / audio clips to watch.  Another fun feature is the link titled, "This Day in History."

Vietnam War Timeline
Extensive list of events that took place prior to, during, and after the Vietnam War.  This timeline is comprehensive and focuses not only on major events, but gives a much more accurate view of the war.  It looks at people, places, and events that were crucial to the war, but often get overlooked by most sites.

PBS - American Experience / Vietnam
Great reference site, especially the who's who section - when in doubt, check it out.  This website is defnitely worth checking out, it coincides with a tv series and has supplementary materials that coincide with the programming.  Make sure to check out the links, they provide detailed information, all organized into a neat and user-friendly site.

MLA Formatting Samples
Useful examples of how to write a variety of formats using MLA style.  Salem High School's English Department requires the use of MLA formatting and this site contains sample documents and understandable explanations below each document.
